The MCU Switches Things up with ‘ECHO’

What to make of Marvel Studios ‘ECHO’ Including the latest news & rumors

Since the beginning of Phase 4 of the MCU, Marvel Studios has been rolling out TV shows via Disney Plus. A word that could best describe them could be ‘consistent’. No one would be shocked if it came to light that there’s some sort of template or formula for the creation of these Disney + shows. ‘ECHO’, which as for now releases November 29th, seems to be one of the first series’ to give the fans a different look.

Ready to Binge?

ECHO’ will be the first MCU Disney Plus show that will drop all its episodes at once. Fans will finally have the opportunity to binge watch new MCU content all at once from start to finish. You can find people on both ends of the spectrum when it comes to this being a good or bad thing. Some feel dropping the show in the binge style watch model is indeed a fresh change. Others feel since ‘ECHO’ isn’t a popular character and how iffy some of the shows have been received, that Marvel Studios is treating this show almost as a “throw away”.

DELAYS

The show has undergone numerous reshoots and delays which has people concerned. It’s quite possible there’s another delay on the horizon. According to thewaltdisneycompany.com, ‘Echo’ is no longer listed as a 2023 release so it’s possible we have to wait even longer for the series.

Who is Maya Lopez?

We were introduced to ‘ECHO’ or Maya Lopez during the ‘Hawkeye’ series. She will be getting her own series and the more we learn about it, the more interesting it gets. This show will deal with how Maya’s actions will catch up with her. She’ll be tested and must come face to face with her past. Doing so she will reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace who she is.

From the ‘Hawkeye’ series, we know that Wilson Fisk Kingpin once upon a time looked after Maya Lopez. He played sort of a father figure role which kept Maya around the life of crime. Echo really is a unique character who in the comics, is the current host of the Phoenix Force.

Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez is a deaf Native American superhero who can adapt to many different fighting styles. She’s considered a street hero similar to Daredevil in some ways. Especially as both have a disability which in turn enhances their other senses.

MCU ‘ECHO’ AND HER POWERS

To the surprise of many, it’s been teased that much like Moonknight, there could be a hint of supernatural or mystical elements in this show. The supernatural elements most likely could be tied to her Native American ancestry.

SPOILER WARNING – Thanks to inside scooper @CanWeGetToast, Maya Lopez’s three main powers have been revealed. Of course, coming from a scooper with inside sources, take it with a grain of salt as potentially not everything is 100% accurate. At this moment it’s pure speculation as no one truly knows since the show hasn’t been released yet.

It’s said that her first power comes from her tattoos that manifest on her hands. When this happens it gives her enhanced strength and indeed relates to her ancestors.

Her second power is said to be sharpshooting abilities. Other tattoos she has would be the source of these abilities in which she will be able to manifest some sort of gun empowered by her ancestors.

Maya’s third power which sounds the most interesting is that along with enhanced speed and durability, she can determine the trajectory of a person or item’s movement. It’s been described as similar to the ‘Sharingan’ from Naruto. Also deriving from a set of tattoos that connect with her past.

If these mystical powers are indeed true, it could be the MCU’s way of trying to make Maya Lopez a lot more interesting of a character since we first met her. Nevertheless, we’ll still get to enjoy Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox as Kingpin and Daredevil as they’re both set to play a role in ‘ECHO’.

The MCU will surely attempt to make the audience fall in love with Maya Lopez. Taking obscure characters and making them popular and likable is kind of their “thing”.
