Just How Deep is the Skrull Infiltration?
One of Marvel’s massive comic events is the Skrull Secret Invasion. The MCU’s adaptation of the event is finally upon us with Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury as the star of the show. A 6-episode event showcasing a mysterious “who’s who” thriller as we get to see what the shapeshifting Skrulls have been up to.
Secret Invasion will be the first TV series in Phase 5 for the MCU. It will also be the first that is centered around a huge comic event. The MCU’s version will of course be different as they’re going for a more grounded & Nick Fury-focused series. Many questions that surround the current state of the MCU will surely get answered with this series. For example, where Nick Fury has been & the current climate on the political side of the MCU.

The ‘Mystery’ of the MCU’s Secret Invasion
Secret Invasion will certainly have tons of mystery. As the story unravels, fans can expect twists & turns on many levels with perhaps a few shocking character reveals. It’s quite possible every episode could leave us with even more questions. It’s entirely possible even after the series itself we’re left with questions, which leads us to the biggest question.
Just how deep is the Skrull infiltration? Is there a Skrull mystery beyond the show? In other words, will the Skrull invasion get wrapped up within this show, or will it linger behind the scenes into multiple projects? It’s not hard to think such a big-time event could go beyond a heavily grounded Nick Fury-centric 6 episode series. The event could easily leak into other projects if Marvel Studios desires to.
Where Else Could Skrulls Be?
Let’s take a look at some future projects that could make some sense.
Starting with the most obvious one being The Marvels. The Skrulls were introduced in the Captain Marvel film. Carol Danvers and Nick Fury who were a part of that film are both coming back for The Marvels movie set to premiere on November 10th, 2023.
The second would be a movie that has been confirmed to be in development but doesn’t have a release slate yet in Armor Wars. When Armor Wars was announced, it was said that Secret Invasion would lead into that project. The other obvious connection would be Don Cheadle’s, James Rhodes. James Rhodes will appear in Secret Invasion and is said to be the main lead for Armor Wars.
Two sneaky MCU projects that could potentially hint at Skrull activity behind the scenes are Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts. Those two movies and Phase 5 in general, will deal with the corruption of governments and “bad guys” getting into positions of power. Part of the Skrull invasion is getting into high-ranking positions. Skrulls surely won’t be the focus in those two films, but just a hint of Skrull is not out of the question.
MCU’s “End Game” of the Skrull Invasion
It’s a big IF but IF the Skrull Secret Invasion continues past the Secret Invasion series, where would it conclude? The best bet would be Armor Wars, especially since Marvel Studios feel like the story would be told best in a movie rather than a series in which it was originally intended.
Could Marvel Studios get crazy though? The MCU is in the middle of its Multiverse Saga that will finish with Avengers: Secret Wars. Although unlikely since they’re already so many characters that will play a part in the culmination of the saga, but who’s to say the Skrulls don’t have a role in the MCU’s Secret Wars story. At the very least, it would be interesting.
