Obi-Wan Kenobi Review 8.5/10

Hello There

Obi-Wan Kenobi the series has the return of Ewan McGregor in his role as the title character as well as Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and his first time fully portraying Darth Vader. The show takes place ten years after Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith and nine years before Episode 4: A New Hope. It expands on the story and relationship between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker who has become Darth Vader. The series gives more details to the time gap between the franchise with fan-favorite characters as well as some new faces.

Third Sister Reva Sevander played by Moses Ingram is a compelling character despite all the controversy & discrimination she was unjustly given. Her character gives a unique perspective yet to be seen in the Star Wars franchise. Throughout the show, her character reveals information and details that push the plot forward for some characters as she is directly connected to certain plot points throughout the franchise. Moses’ performance leaves viewers having experienced all emotions on the pallet.

The star of the show is by far Princess Leia Organa played by young actress Vivien Lyra Blair. Her performance embodies the character as well as the essence of the late and great Carrie Fisher. Some of the costume designs were also a homage to the original outfits that Carrie Fisher wore in the original trilogy Episodes 4-6. The series gives viewers and fans of the Star Wars franchise a reminder that Princess Leia is just as important as her brother Luke Skywalker, who also appears in the show portrayed by young actor Grant Feely. Both are talented and seem to have bright futures ahead of them.

Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader is the main antagonist in the series, with other supporting characters also playing the role of antagonists as well. Darth Vader is voiced by the great James Earl Jones using the same artificial intelligence technology that Disney and Lucasfilm used to replicate Mark Hamill’s voice for Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian as well as The Book of Boba Fett. Hayden Christensen’s performance as both Anakin and Darth Vader is captivating. Hayden displays multiple ranges of emotions throughout the series and fully captures everything about Darth Vader.

Throughout the series, viewers see how Order 66 impacted the galaxy far, far away. The show displays the first live-action look of the Grand Inquisitor played by Rupert Friend, as well as the Fifth Brother played by Sung Kang both originally introduced in Star Wars Rebels. This is also the introduction of the Fourth Sister played by Rya Kihlstedt. The Inquisitors are known for hunting the remaining Jedi throughout the Star Wars franchise and this series is no different. Viewers get to see how much the Empire has grown since Order 66 as well as how the Rebel Alliance started to piece together.

The series is balanced, emotional, and a great service to Star Wars. Fans of the prequel series will feel nostalgia for the cast as well as the callbacks and parallels the show has in it. While the show has caused plenty of debates online on what’s accurate to the canon or not, it gives enough details that viewers don’t have to follow their headcanon, but instead answer those questions. This series is a must-watch for Star Wars fans.
