More Special Presentations from Marvel Studios?
Marvel Studios released a new type of tv film to their expanding cinematic universe on October 7th, 2022 titled Werewolf by Night. The special presentation is the first television film to arrive on Disney+ and brings something new altogether to Marvel. The one-shot project creates an opportunity for more special presentations further down the line. Opening the possibility for new stories to be told and characters to develop.
Disney+ has created an outlet for film and television studios to deliver stories that intertwine with one another. From the beginning of the streaming application’s launch, it was confirmed that Marvel Studios’ television shows on Disney+ would expand on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, more content besides television shows has come from Marvel Studios including a docuseries in Marvel Studios: Legends and an anthology series in Marvel Studios: Assembled. Both series continue to add additional episodes upon the release of the films and series.
Marvel Studios: Legends is a documentary series that features a new character from the MCU in each episode. Each feature dives deeper into the character and their time in the MCU. The docu-series gives viewers an insight into the character’s past to prepare for what’s to come and the story to be told moving forward. Marvel Studios: Assembled is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Marvel Studios productions. The anthology series takes viewers onto the set of the production exploring the process of creating the film or series. While both projects differ from each other, they display a format that Marvel Studios has taken to create additional content on Disney+.
Holiday Special
A Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was announced in December 2020, with an official release still to be determined. This was the first announcement about a special presentation. James Gunn, the writer, and director of the previous Guardians of the Galaxy films is set to write and direct the special presentation. James Gunn even went as far as to give some insight on Twitter about the upcoming project.
While little is known about the holiday special it is scheduled to be released holiday 2022. It’s clear that Werewolf by Night will not be the last Marvel Studios Special Presentation!
