Werewolf by Night Halloween Special could be…Special
A few weeks ago during the D23 event, Marvel Studios finally announced ‘Werewolf by Night’ releasing on October 7th. They also released a trailer that made waves because it was a style and tone we haven’t seen from the MCU yet. It’s refreshing to see Marvel take a “stab” at something new, venturing over into the horror genre.
The first reason to be excited is just the fact that this is a one-off special. This isn’t a series with multiple episodes, it’s basically one long episode or a short movie depending on how you look at it. It’s said to be about 53 minutes long and described as “Marvel’s first-ever special presentation.”
With this special being a one-off event dropping on Disney Plus, that alone generated buzz from the fans. It’s also cool to see Marvel Studios try things they’ve never done as they continue to figure out the best ways to use Disney Plus.
Another reason to be excited about this special is that it dives into a totally different side of the MCU. With characters like Jack Russell Werewolf, Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing, this special really opens the door to the supernatural side of the MCU. I mean, we’re getting freaking Man-Thing!
This must mean Midnight sons are on the way right?
There is so much to explore from the supernatural side including a fan favorite team of heroes known as Midnight Sons. So far, we’ve only spent time with Moonknight, but that series in general was very isolated from everything else going on in the MCU. We got Dane Whitman as Black Knight and the voice of Blade during a post-credit scene in the ‘Eternals’ movie.
‘Werewolf by Night’ aims to be unique and the black & white aesthetics could be a huge hit for Marvel Studios.
Marvel fans are in for a treat as most of the early viewers and reactions have been nothing but positive. ‘Werewolf by Night’ at the moment also has a 100% on Rotton Tomatoes. Now, that can change as the feature gets more reviews, but still very impressive as it stands.
