Ms. Marvel Season 1 Finale Drops Some Surprises

Ms. Marvel Season 1 Finale Has Marvel Fans Talking Before San Diego Comic-Con

The Ms. Marvel show on Disney Plus was a breath of fresh air as opposed to everything else going on in the MCU during phase 4. It is a grounded coming-of-age story that follows Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan growing up with her high school friends and learning about her new mysterious powers AND her family.

The first couple of episodes gives comic fans a cool experience with the “head in the clouds” type of vibe while animations jump off the screen like a comic book. The family dynamic is by far the best part of the series. After a couple of episodes, the show takes a bit of a turn and goes away from that setting when they leave Jersey City and go to Pakistan.

While the Pakistani culture is strong throughout the series, the show also gives us a group of not-so-interesting villains called the Clandestine. We also get some history that included Kamala traveling back in time. All of this to set up a season finale that did not hold back its punches. Marvel fans got a few big reveals and references in the final episode.

Starting with the title itself being “No Normal” in which Ms. Marvel also says this phrase in the episode. “No Normal” is the same title as the first trade in the Ms. Marvel comic series.

Kamala aka Ms. Marvel name dropping her “embiggen” power also happened within this episode. Her embiggen powers were such a big thing fans wanted to see and during her stand-off with the DODC she says the name and manifested those powers to fight back.

The name “Ms. Marvel” was given to her by her father in a heartwarming scene where he explains to her the meaning of her name. Kamala meaning ‘perfect’ in Arabic and also meaning ‘wonder’ and ‘Marvel’. The father ends the scene by saying “you sure are..and always have been..our own little Ms. Marvel”.

Perhaps the biggest gem this show dropped was at the end of the episode, Kamala’s good friend Bruno basically tells Kamala that she has a MUTATION in her genes followed along by the guitar sounds of the 97’ X-Men Animated TV series theme. This essentially confirms, for now, or at least what they want us to think that Ms. Marvel is a Mutant and has the X gene… until further notice.

This is significant because her comic counterpart is classified as an inhuman. Neither Inhumans nor Mutants have been mentioned by anyone in the MCU “616” universe but both carry a mutated gene, they just become active differently. So as far as Bruno and the audience knows, Kamala is just confirmed to have a mutated gene within her.

But the fact that they did say “mutation“ and gave us that 97 X-Men theme in the background, has to be Marvel’s way of wanting us to think Ms. Marvel is indeed a Mutant. This is also significant because that would mean Mutants weren’t transported here by the Multiverse or anything like that, but have indeed been around in the MCU in some form or fashion.

This is huge because this episode is the last piece of Marvel content before San Diego Comic-Con. We know Marvel plans to make a big splash during their segment and many have been speculating about a possible announcement of Mutants. Now with that Ms. Marvel ending, it would only be right to expect some news on Mutants during their panel. We know Kevin Feige has been really looking forward to the Mutants and is one of the projects he’s the most excited about.

There was one last knockout punch this episode left us with, better yet the end credit scene. The post-credit scene showed Kamala’s bangle beginning to glow, and then Brie Larson as Captain Marvel is warped in and Ms. Marvel disappears and the scene ends.

This post-credit scene has fans talking about the upcoming movie The Marvels which will have both Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel, but all we can do is speculate until it comes out in 2023.

A popular theory on what happened in that scene is that perhaps Captain Marvel came in contact with the other bangle. Fans also believe the bangles are the MCU’s version of the Nega-Bands from the comics. They do have a history of people being able to use them to trade places and that would make a lot of sense as to what happened in that post-credit scene.

This theory also makes sense because of another ongoing theory with this show being that the Ten Rings and these Bangels may be related or connected.

Ten Rings Logo from Episode 3 of Ms. marvel

It’s possible both are sending beacons and when was the last time we saw Captain Marvel? During the post-credit scene of Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings along with The Hulk and Wong as they picked up the signals from the Ten Rings. It is quite possible the bangles are ancient artifacts as well that possess cosmic power and Captain Marvel came across the other one that caused the two heroes to switch places.

One last little cool easter egg from this episode dates all the way back to 2008. The sonic weapons the DODC were using appear to be the same ones used back in The Incredible Hulk movie which is a pretty cool connection.

And now all Marvel fans can do is wait until July 23rd’s SDCC for more information about the future of the MCU and its direction. The next project to premiere will be She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on August 17th with a 9-episode format, and from what we know and have seen from the trailers, this show should give fans a better idea of what the MCU might look like right now. Many fans are curious about what’s going on in the MCU in general since the Thanos snap, with the inclusion of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jennifer Walter’s She-Hulk being a lawyer, fans might get some answers. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
